The Black Dog Candle Shoppe was born from two things I’ve always loved: creating a warm, welcoming home and, of course, dogs.
As a lifelong dog lover, I’ve had the privilege of sharing my life with several rescue dogs. Each one has left a lasting mark on my heart and helped shape what Black Dog has become—a candle company created for people who understand that dogs aren’t simply pets. They’re family.
What began as a small candle-making business has grown into something I could never have imagined. Today, Black Dog candles can be found in hundreds of shops across the country, and we’ve had the incredible opportunity to work with retailers and animal-welfare organizations that share our love for dogs.
But growth has never changed the heart behind what we do.
Every Black Dog candle is handcrafted with 100% natural soy wax and thoughtfully designed to bring together beautiful fragrance, simple style, and the unmistakable joy of life with dogs. From our breed-inspired candles to the words and sentiments every dog person knows by heart, our collections are made to feel personal.
Giving back is also an important part of our story. We believe every animal deserves a safe and loving home, and we’re proud to support shelters, rescues, and organizations working every day to make that possible.
My own journey as a breast cancer survivor has made me especially grateful for the unexpected paths life can take and for the communities that surround us along the way. Black Dog is one of those unexpected gifts—and I’m incredibly grateful for every person who chooses to make our candles part of their home.

Why Black Dog?
There’s a story behind our name. And, naturally, it begins with dogs.
The name Black Dog Candle Shoppe was inspired by what is often referred to as Black Dog Syndrome—the observation that black dogs can sometimes be overlooked in shelters and may wait longer to find their families.
As the proud dog mom of three black dogs, that has always been especially close to my heart. I know firsthand just how much love, loyalty, personality, and joy these dogs bring into a home. They became part of the inspiration behind Black Dog and a reminder of why every dog deserves the chance to be seen, loved, and chosen.
Black Dog Candle Shoppe is our way of celebrating that extraordinary bond between dogs and their people. Everything we create is inspired by the dogs who make our houses feel like home—from our breed collections to the little sayings only another dog person truly understands.
Our love for rescue and animal welfare will always be part of who we are. We believe every animal deserves a loving home, and we’ll continue to advocate for the dogs who are still waiting for theirs.
